About
The Challenger Center for Space Science Education is a nonprofit organization established in April 1986 to honor the legacy of the Space Shuttle Challenger crew. Its mission is to inspire K-12 students in STEM fields through immersive and experiential learning programs. The organization operates over 46 Challenger Learning Centers worldwide, including locations in the U.S., Canada, and South Korea, where students engage in space-themed simulations that promote teamwork and problem-solving. The center offers a variety of programs, including space mission simulations where students take on roles such as engineers or astronauts. It also provides a STEM curriculum aligned with national education standards, emphasizing hands-on learning. Additionally, the Challenger Center supports educators with professional development and offers virtual programs for schools that cannot access physical centers. The organization serves school districts, educators, and students, fostering partnerships with various institutions to enhance its educational impact.
