About Stanford Impact Labs

Stanford Impact Labs (SIL) is a university-wide initiative at Stanford University dedicated to addressing social challenges through evidence-based solutions. It brings together scholars and leaders from various sectors, including government, business, and nonprofits, to design, test, and scale impactful projects. Since its inception, SIL has invested over $20.2 million in 32 collaborative "impact labs," focusing on issues such as economic inequality, health access, and political polarization.

SIL operates as a research and development model for the social sciences, providing funding, professional development, and mentoring to scholars across disciplines. Its staged funding approach supports projects from initial exploration to real-world implementation. Key programs include "Scholars in Service," which allows faculty to work directly with government or nonprofit organizations, and partnerships with various entities to enhance the effectiveness of research findings. Recent projects include initiatives in AI literacy, pollution reduction, and addressing education inequities.
