About Sseko Designs

Sseko Designs is a fair-trade fashion brand that empowers women through ethical employment and education initiatives. Founded in 2009 by Liz Bohannon, the company began as a social enterprise in Uganda, providing jobs for women during their gap year between high school and university. In 2022, Sseko merged with Noonday Collection, creating the largest fair-trade fashion brand powered by a social-selling model. The Ugandan operations transitioned to Arise Kollections, which is now the largest African-owned export fashion brand in Uganda. Sseko Designs offers a variety of products, including sandals with interchangeable ribbon ties, leather goods like handbags and wallets, textiles such as scarves and apparel, and ethically crafted jewelry. In 2020, they expanded their product line to include coffee. The company emphasizes fair-trade manufacturing, ensuring artisans earn fair wages and receive health benefits. Their social-selling model allows U.S.-based ambassadors to connect customers with artisans, while also providing education support through matched scholarships for employees.
