She Built This City is a nonprofit organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina, dedicated to addressing gender disparities and labor shortages in the skilled trades. Founded in 2019 by Demi Knight Clark, the organization focuses on creating equitable pathways for women, youth, and marginalized communities in fields like construction. The organization offers a variety of programs, including hands-on activities for youth, a mobile tool lab that brings workshops to local communities, and virtual shop classes in partnership with Lowe’s Generation T. Its Barrier Removal Program aims to eliminate systemic obstacles to career readiness and apprenticeship opportunities. She Built This City also develops educational curricula featuring over 30 hands-on activities designed to teach trade skills. With a mission to achieve gender equity in the trades by 2030, She Built This City works with construction companies, schools, and community organizations to foster interest in skilled trades and provide sustainable career pathways.
