About Food Bank of Iowa

Food Bank of Iowa is a nonprofit organization focused on reducing food insecurity throughout Iowa. It serves as a central hub for food distribution, collaborating with around 500 partner agencies across 55 counties. In 2022, the organization distributed over 27 million pounds of food, with a significant portion sourced through food rescue efforts to minimize waste. The Food Bank operates various programs, including a network of partner agencies that supply food to pantries, meal sites, and shelters. It runs 138 school pantries in 42 counties, aiming to expand access to every school district in its service area. The BackPack Program™ provides weekend food sacks to elementary students, and mobile pantries serve underserved communities. The organization prioritizes nutritional quality and sustainability, sourcing food through USDA commodities, purchased items, and local procurement. Its mission is to eliminate hunger and support vulnerable populations, including children, seniors, and families in need.
