About Feed Nova Scotia
Feed Nova Scotia is a registered charity based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Founded in 1984, it has grown into a provincial organization dedicated to addressing food insecurity by collecting and distributing approximately 3 million kilograms of donated food each year. The charity partners with over 130 member agencies, including food banks, meal programs, and shelters, to provide essential food access to communities across the province.
The organization focuses on food sovereignty and justice, advocating for systemic changes to tackle the root causes of hunger, such as poverty and inadequate housing. In addition to food distribution, Feed Nova Scotia offers capacity building for its member agencies, raises awareness about hunger's underlying issues, and develops community-led initiatives. With a team of about 40 staff members, it generates around $12.6 million in revenue and emphasizes collaboration with those who have lived experience of food insecurity.
