ELITE Program for Black Youth
About ELITE Program for Black Youth
The ELITE Program for Black Youth is an experiential learning initiative launched at the University of Alberta. It focuses on providing hands-on learning and entrepreneurship training for young Black innovators aged 15 to 22. The program aims to help participants navigate the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship through various core services.
Key offerings include paid internships lasting 8 to 16 weeks, leadership and entrepreneurship training, and wellness support. Internships provide real-world experience in an innovation ecosystem, while the training series covers essential topics like startup creation and financial literacy. Participants also receive mental health coaching to enhance their resilience. The program emphasizes skills development in STEM fields and disrupter technologies, ensuring that participants gain marketable technical skills and build a professional network for future employment opportunities. Collaborating organizations, such as Edmonton Unlimited and the Black Business Ventures Association, contribute to the program's comprehensive training components.
