About Villages Calgary
Villages Calgary is a non-profit fair trade retail store that has been serving the Calgary community for over forty years. As part of the Global Village Crafts Society, it focuses on promoting ethical consumption and supporting artisans and farmers from marginalized communities around the world. The store operates from a two-storey location on Crowchild Trail and is primarily run by volunteers.
The mission of Villages Calgary is to encourage local support for producers through fair trade practices. The organization emphasizes ethical practices, empowerment, sustainable production, and community support, particularly for women. It offers a wide range of certified fair trade products, including bath and spa items, clothing, food and drink, housewares, jewelry, and more, sourced from various countries such as Rwanda, Vietnam, and India. Villages Calgary is a member of the Fair Trade Federation and is currently preparing for relocation after 41 years at its original site.
