About The Industrial Commons

The Industrial Commons is a non-profit organization located in Western North Carolina. Its mission is to rebuild a diverse working class by fostering locally-rooted wealth. The organization emphasizes equity and participation, aiming to create an interconnected economic ecosystem where businesses support one another and contribute to community well-being. The Industrial Commons offers various services, including business development for triple-bottom line businesses, workforce training for frontline workers, and community engagement initiatives. It promotes environmental sustainability in the U.S. textile industry and supports the establishment of community-owned cooperatives, allowing employees to gain ownership and profit-sharing benefits. The organization is also developing a 27.87-acre Innovation Campus to facilitate collaboration among small to mid-sized textile and furniture firms, enhancing growth and innovation in these sectors. Through its efforts, The Industrial Commons has trained over 4,453 workers, supported 452 businesses, and generated $64 million in assets and revenue, contributing significantly to local economic development.
