Outpost Natural Foods is a cooperative business serving the metro Milwaukee community since 1970. Originally founded as the East Kane Street Food Co-op, it operates on the principle that collective efforts yield greater results. The co-op emphasizes local, natural, and organic foods, supporting sustainable agriculture and providing a stable market for local farmers. Outpost offers a variety of products, including bulk items, fruits, vegetables, grains, and honey. It features a fresh meat department, a coffee bar in collaboration with local businesses, a salad bar, and wine and beer sales. With four store locations in the Milwaukee area and a Market Café at the Rite-Hite Family YMCA in Brown Deer, Outpost employs over 460 people and is a union employer. The co-op serves over 22,000 members, who enjoy special discounts and community involvement. Outpost is recognized for its contributions to the community and has received several awards, including Cooperative of the Year in 1998.
