NORC Innovation Centre
About NORC Innovation Centre
NORC Innovation Centre (NIC) is Canada's first center focused on enhancing integrated health and social care in Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs). Located at the University Health Network in Toronto, the NIC aims to innovate the future of aging in place, recognizing that many older adults live in high-density residential buildings rather than traditional care facilities.
The NIC employs a community development approach to empower older adults and foster intergenerational relationships. It operates through four main areas: operational support, policy development, research, and design. The center collaborates with residents, building owners, and community service providers to tailor programs that meet the unique needs of each NORC community. Services include health workshops, wellness classes, social events, and personalized health interventions, all supported by a dedicated team of coordinators and healthcare professionals.
The NIC serves older adults aged 65 and older in various housing types, including co-ops, social housing, and high-rises. It also provides resources to help communities develop their own aging in place initiatives, promoting healthy and engaged living for seniors.
