About Kitepower
Kitepower, a Dutch startup founded in 2016, specializes in airborne wind energy systems (AWES). Originating from research at Delft University of Technology, the company is headquartered in Delft and employs around 18 people. Kitepower develops innovative kite-based systems that generate electricity, offering a cost-effective and material-efficient alternative to traditional wind turbines and diesel generators. Their technology uses lightweight inflatable kites that operate at high altitudes, harnessing stronger winds for improved energy efficiency.
Key products include the Hawk system, a 20 kW prototype designed for mobile applications, and the Falcon system, a 100 kW containerized solution currently undergoing testing. Kitepower operates under an Energy as a Service model, providing clean energy solutions for construction sites and remote locations. The company collaborates with various partners, including energy giant RWE and several European consortiums, to support the deployment of their systems and contribute to the global energy transition. Kitepower aims to minimize environmental impact and promote renewable energy adoption, positioning itself as a leader in the commercialization of airborne wind energy.
