About IronKey

IronKey, originally founded in 1996, was a company focused on internet security and data privacy. The development of its core products began in 2005, driven by concerns over corporate security threats related to lost USB drives. IronKey gained recognition for its tamper-resistant USB Flash drives, which were first released in 2007. These drives featured hardware-based AES256 encryption, ensuring that user data remained secure and protected by a password. The primary product of IronKey was its secure USB Flash drive, designed to safeguard sensitive information from unauthorized access. These drives were built to be tamper-proof and waterproof, featuring a robust metal case and epoxy-potted internals. They limited incorrect password attempts to ten, after which the device would self-destruct to protect the data. IronKey's products were approved for use at the TOP SECRET level, indicating their adoption by government agencies and organizations that require high levels of data security. In 2011, IronKey's technology was acquired by Imation, and the company later became Marble Security in 2012. In 2016, Kingston Technology acquired IronKey, leading to the formation of Kingston IronKey, which continues to produce hardware-encrypted USB drives.
