About Indigenous Connectivity Institute
The Indigenous Connectivity Institute (ICI) is a non-profit organization focused on advancing digital equity for Indigenous communities across North America. It empowers these communities to build, own, and control their broadband networks and internet infrastructure. ICI operates independently from its origins with Connect Humanity and the Internet Society, and it emphasizes Indigenous rights and self-determination in addressing connectivity challenges faced by First Nations, Inuit, Métis, American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities.
ICI's key initiatives include hosting the annual Indigenous Connectivity Summit, which brings together leaders and policymakers to discuss broadband and digital equity. The organization also provides workforce development through training programs like Tribal Broadband Bootcamps, awards Connectivity Grants to support community broadband projects, and conducts research to advocate for policy changes that benefit Indigenous connectivity. Through partnerships with organizations like Connect Humanity and the Mastercard Foundation, ICI is dedicated to fostering sustainable internet access and digital skills within Indigenous communities.
