About Global Automakers of Canada
Global Automakers of Canada (GAC) is a national trade association that represents the interests of 16 leading international automakers in Canada. These members operate over 26 brands in the Canadian automotive market. GAC was established in 1999, evolving from a sub-committee of the Canadian Importers Association, and focuses on the manufacturing, importation, distribution, and servicing of light-duty vehicles.
In 2024, GAC's member companies accounted for 62% of Canadian vehicle sales and 70% of vehicle production. The association supports over 110,000 jobs directly and contributes to additional employment across the country. GAC advocates for its members on various issues, including vehicle safety, environmental standards, and international trade barriers. It also facilitates customs clearance, regulatory harmonization, and coordination with auto shows and logistics providers. GAC's mission includes keeping members informed about legislative matters and collaborating with governments to reduce the environmental impact of vehicles.
