Emvolon
About
Emvolon is a technology company founded in 2021 and launched from MIT. It specializes in converting waste methane and greenhouse gas emissions into carbon-negative liquid fuels and chemicals, such as green methanol and green ammonia. The company utilizes repurposed automotive engines as modular chemical plants, enabling onsite production that reduces transportation costs and flare emissions. Emvolon focuses on hard-to-abate sectors like agriculture, waste management, energy, aviation, maritime, and fertilizers. Its patented technology allows for the transformation of biogas methane or greenhouse gases into valuable products, supporting distributed manufacturing without the need for extensive infrastructure. The company has partnered with Montauk Renewables to produce up to 50,000 metric tons of green methanol annually by 2030, starting from a facility in Texas.
