About
The Digital Service at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is a dedicated team of engineers, designers, and product managers focused on modernizing federal healthcare technology. Established in 2014, DSAC works to enhance accessibility, equity, and efficiency in healthcare delivery through digital innovation. The team collaborates with CMS staff and federal partners to build and maintain critical infrastructure for Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and the Health Insurance Marketplaces, serving over 160 million beneficiaries. DSAC offers a range of public-facing digital tools, including resources for understanding medical bill rights, mental health support through Findsupport.gov, and operational support for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Additionally, the team implements legislative changes in CMS’s core systems and promotes open-source policies to foster transparency and collaboration in federal healthcare technology. Their operational approach emphasizes user-centered design and agile development to tackle complex healthcare challenges.
