Carbonwave
About
Carbonwave is a Public Benefit Corporation founded in January 2020, based in Carolina, Puerto Rico, with operations in Mexico. The company specializes in developing ultra-regenerative, plant-based advanced biomaterials from seaweed, particularly addressing the Sargassum crisis caused by nutrient runoff and climate change. Co-founded by Geoff Chapin and Ben Ellis, Carbonwave aims to transform environmental challenges into valuable materials while promoting carbon neutrality and ocean restoration. The company operates across the entire value chain, from collecting Sargassum along the Yucatan Peninsula coastline to processing and refining it into advanced biomaterial products. Carbonwave has launched innovative products such as Sarga Agriscience, a seaweed-based biostimulant and organic fertilizer, and SeaBalance, a cosmetic emulsifier. Additionally, it is developing plant-based leathers, non-wovens, and bioplastics for various industries, including agriculture, fashion, and cosmetics. Carbonwave has raised $14.33 million in funding and collaborates with partners like International Farming to enhance its product offerings.
