Cannabis Authenticity and Purity Standard (CAPS)
About
The Cannabis Authenticity and Purity Standard (CAPS) is a voluntary certification program aimed at ensuring the authenticity, purity, and quality of cannabis and hemp products. It combines Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) with an Authenticity Identity Management System (AIMS). CAPS addresses the need for safety and quality measures across the cannabis supply chain, including medicinal, edible, beverage, topical, and recreational products, with a focus on Canada, the EU, and global expansion. CAPS offers a range of services, including facility audits conducted by third-party providers, product certification, and authenticity verification through a global registry. Certified facilities can display the CAPS seal on their packaging, signifying compliance with rigorous standards. The program also provides training and certification for auditors, ensuring expertise in CAPS compliance. With support from accreditation bodies like the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), CAPS emphasizes third-party validation to maintain consistent quality and safety in cannabis and hemp-derived products.
