Canadian Institute for Social Prescribing
About
The Canadian Institute for Social Prescribing (CISP) is a national hub established in March 2022. It connects individuals to community-based supports and services aimed at enhancing health and wellbeing. CISP operates as a collective impact network, utilizing co-design methodologies to promote social prescribing across Canada. CISP serves as a pan-Canadian platform that identifies and builds upon existing social prescribing initiatives. It fosters partnerships among primary care, community services, and various stakeholders, including the Canadian Red Cross and Bridgeable. The organization focuses on health equity, mental and physical health, and social connectedness, with particular attention to seniors, newcomers, racialized individuals, LGBTQ2IA+ communities, and those facing mental health challenges. Key activities include producing research reports, developing a national social prescribing framework, curating evidence on social prescribing impacts, and building networks with community organizations and health authorities. CISP aims to bridge the gap between health care and social care, promoting a holistic approach to community engagement and support.
