About
The Canadian Black Scientists Network (CBSN) is a national organization established in July 2020 to support and connect Black Canadians in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM). Founded by a group of volunteers, the CBSN aims to address the underrepresentation of Black individuals in these fields by providing mentorship, fostering community, and advocating for equitable practices. CBSN offers various programs, including a mentorship initiative that pairs Black-identifying individuals with mentors and peers for professional development. The organization also hosts the annual Black Excellence in STEMM & Medicine (BE-STEMM) conference and engages in policy advocacy to address systemic barriers in STEMM. Additionally, CBSN collaborates with Statistics Canada to collect data on Black students in STEMM education, aiming to enhance participation and retention among young Black Canadians.
