About

Aorato was an Israeli cybersecurity startup founded by veterans of the Israeli Defense Forces, based in Herzliya. Established between 2011 and 2012, the company specialized in advanced threat detection for enterprise networks, utilizing machine learning to identify suspicious activities. In November 2014, Aorato was acquired by Microsoft for approximately $200 million, enhancing Microsoft's hybrid cloud security capabilities. Aorato's main product was the Directory Services Application Firewall (DAF), which protected Windows Server Active Directory environments. It featured an Organizational Security Graph for behavioral modeling, real-time threat detection for advanced attacks, and hybrid cloud integration to support both on-premises and cloud-based identity systems. Aorato's technology focused on behavioral analysis and predictive threat modeling, providing visibility into Active Directory traffic and enabling proactive defense against targeted attacks. After the acquisition, Aorato ceased independent operations, and its technology was integrated into Microsoft's security division, influencing the development of Microsoft's identity protection tools.
