Laneway homes are small, urban, infill dwellings that can be built on existing residential lots, typically replace the garage, and are built adjacent to the lane (alley).

In 2009 the city of Vancouver, BC adopted new laneway housing guidelines as part of it’s EcoDensity initiative.

In May 2010, Lanefab completed the city’s first laneway house – a 710sf energy efficient home built with prefab Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) and triple glazed windows.
