AI4Good Lab is an educational initiative dedicated to empowering women and gender-diverse individuals through machine learning and AI training. The program spans seven weeks, combining technical education with project-based learning. It is designed for participants who have programming experience but limited formal training in machine learning and AI. The initiative is part of the Pan-Canadian AI Strategy and is implemented by Mila in Montreal, Amii in Edmonton, and the Vector Institute in Toronto.
The program includes a four-week ML Bootcamp featuring lectures, workshops, and networking events, followed by three weeks of team projects focused on developing AI prototypes that address social good challenges, such as healthcare and climate issues. Participants receive mentorship from industry professionals and academic experts, culminating in a non-accredited certificate upon completion. AI4Good Lab emphasizes inclusivity and aims to bridge the gender gap in AI fields while aligning its projects with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
